INTRODUCTION

The lighting festival “Öövalgel“ (In the light of the night) presents original visual performances and art installations using light in the historic heart of Pärnu. The uniqueness of the festival lies within the videomapping performances that centre on the human being. A variety of visual solutions help to tell stories on a number of topics, but in all the stories the human being plays a central role.

Theatre, dance and music performances are produced. In addition, the shop windows on Rüütli and the neighbouring streets are turned into an art gallery.

Short is the Sound of a Song

A visual journey through the life of Johann Voldemar Jannsen in tragicomic images. Jannsen was an epochal figure whose undertakings, such as laying the foundation for Estonian journalism, turned the history of Estonia into a truly epic story. Jannsen and his legacy live on. He is with us in the light and in the shadows, in the music that resonates through the ages and in the pensive silence.
